Legends of Slots turned out to be nothing like I expected

I almost skipped Legends of Slots based on the name alone, which would have been a mistake. Under the title sits a gentle casual puzzle where you spin reels of illustrated symbols and line up little heroes, lanterns and runes to clear each chapter's goals. It's slow, soft, and genuinely pretty.

The thing I keep coming back to is the art. Every symbol is a small watercolour, and as you move through the regions on the map, whole new illustrated sets appear. There's a real sense of a hand behind it, which you don't always get in casual games.

Mechanically it's as light as they come. You tap to spin, occasionally hold a reel before the next turn, and watch objectives tick down. The whole game is playable with one thumb, which is exactly what I want from something I open while waiting for the bus.

If you need a game that tests you, this isn't it. But as a wind-down companion with a quiet soundtrack and a story that drips out one chapter at a time, Legends of Slots found a permanent spot on my home screen.
