How to actually get good at mobile drift racing

April 7, 2026 · Marta Bergström

Mobile racing games live or die on how their controls feel, and drift racers in particular ask you to unlearn some instincts. The common mistake is treating the drift button like a brake. It isn't.

In something like Neon Drift Circuit, the drift breaks your rear traction and lets you build boost through the slide. Tap it entering a corner, hold your steering through the arc, and release as you straighten out. Do that cleanly and you exit faster than you entered.

Try both control schemes before you decide. Tilt steering gives finer input once you're used to it, but the touch-only layout is more forgiving and fine for shorter sessions.

The real jump in skill comes from chaining. Linking one drift straight into the next keeps your boost topped up and your momentum high. It takes practice, and it's the best feeling the genre offers.
